  • Ricketts Glen State Park

    Located just 4.3 miles from Fishing Creek Lodge, this is a beautiful Pennsylvania gem you sure don’t want to miss! Hike the Falls Trail System of Ricketts Glen State Part to explore a series of wild, free-flowing waterfalls cascading through this ancient hillside. You’ll most definitely want to return to this area once you’ve seen it!

    The 94-foot Ganoga Falls is the highest of 22 named waterfalls at the park.

  • State Game Lands #13

    State Game Lands 13 in Sullivan and Columbia counties has been referred to as the “Waterfall Wonderland” of Pennsylvania!

    They have an area of 49,529 acres. The game lands are mountainous and contain streams such as West Branch Fishing Creek. The main game animals in the area include bear, deer, grouse, turkey, and waterfowl. The game lands are adjacent to Pennsylvania State Game Lands Number 57.

    It is home to a vast array of magnificent streams and waterfalls, some of them quite well-known to hikers and photographers, others tucked away in rarely-visited nooks and crannies of the forest. It’s a must see when in the area and Sullivan Falls is easily accessed by foot, for those who don’t want to do too much hiking.

  • Lake Jean at Ricketts Glen State Park

    The 245-acre Lake Jean has dry mooring and two boat launches. A boat rental concession operates during the summer season and offers rowboats, paddleboats, kayaks and canoes. Electric motors only. Picnic facilities are also nearby.

    The 600-foot beach is open from late-May to mid-September, 8 a.m. to sunset. Swim at your own risk. Please follow posted rules and regulations.

    Lake Jean has warm-water game fish, panfish and trout. Please follow all Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission rules and regulations. Fishing is prohibited in the Glens Natural Area.

  • Ricketts Hard Cider

    Since 2009, Ricketts Cidery in Benton has been making their own local hard ciders. This family-run business uses crisp, local apples and ages their ciders in whiskey barrels for a unique, authentic taste. Their ciders range from dry and tart to semi-sweet to creative fruit flavors.

    Located just 10 minutes from Ricketts Glen State Park, this family and dog friendly cidery is definitely worth a stop. Their tasting room is located in a stunning nineteenth-century barn. Come see for yourself why it was named the 2019 Tasting Room of the Year by PA Cider Fest.

  • Benton Dam

    The Benton area was first settled by two families in 1792. A schoolhouse was opened in 1799. Starting around 1860, tanning and lumber industries began to grow north of the borough. By 1868, Benton had about fifty houses.

    The 280 foot Benton Dam is a concrete dam built in 1915 at the site of an old mill. The powerhouse contains a 75-kilowatt generator, operated by a 100-horsepower turbine.

    It’s a fun Fishing Creek fishing spot, which contains Brown, Brook, Rainbow and a few Tiger Trout. It’s upstream area is also a popular kids swimming spot in the summer.

  • Central Park Restaurant and Bar

    YUMM! Our local favorite! Central Park Hotel is a historic bar, and restaurant, just one block up from Fishing Creek Lodge in Benton! This destination has been a local staple ever since it was first built in the 1800s. Located at the foot of North Mountain, the hotel is the gateway to the Pennsylvania State Game Lands and Ricketts Glen State Park.

    The kitchen at Central Park Hotel makes homemade specialties like steaks, seafood, and more. A full bar offers an excellent selection of beer, wine, and cocktails.

  • Jim Thorpe

    Jim Thorpe is a popular tourist destination nestled in the Lehigh Gorge Valley, with a wealth of beautiful, historic buildings packed along winding mountain streets

    Founded in 1818 and originally known as Mauch Chunk, Jim Thorpe is now named after the greatest athlete of all time, and there's plenty of rich history to discover. The elegant Victorian mansions have been revitalized and today house unique shops, dining, museums, galleries and popular entertainment venues.

    Ride the rails from Jim Thorpe into Lehigh Gorge State Park. The narrated out-and-back trip follows the majestic Lehigh River over bridges and into the Lehigh Gorge State Park. The view along this magnificent route changes with the seasons. Special events, including holiday trains, are scheduled throughout the year.

  • World's End State Park

    World's End State Park

    Located 27.9 miles from Fishing Creek Lodge, Worlds End State Park is a 780-acre Pennsylvania state park in Sullivan County. The Loyalsock Trail is a 59.2-mile hiking trail through Worlds End State Park, which is open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset. Loyalsock Canyon Vista is an overlook that offers fantastic views of the Loyalsock Valley far below. Visitors can drive up to this overlook or take the four-mile Canyon Vista Trail.

    Worlds End State Park has an extensive forest cover of hemlock-filled valleys and hardwood tree-covered mountains, which makes it a habitat for "big woods" wildlife. Animals such as white-tailed deer, black bear, wild turkey, red and gray squirrels are seen fairly regularly and it’s also part of an Important Bird Area. Loyalsock Creek is home to native brook trout and black bass. This park is sure to not disappoint.

  • Harveys Lake

    Harvey’s lake is so much fun and about 25 minutes from the lodge. Kathleen used to live there before she met Terry! The lake has easy access to swimming, fishing, water skiing, motor boating, and scuba diving. Although much of the lakeshore has private houses and docks, there is a public dock to throw your boat and kayaks in for a fun day on the water!

  • Frances Slocum State Park

    Although this is a half hour from the lodge, it’s one of our favorites because it’s so peaceful, quiet and pretty. There are no motorboats allowed and plenty of fish. Frances Slocum State Park consists of 1,035 acres in northeastern Pennsylvania’s Luzerne County.

    The horseshoe shaped, 165-acre lake is popular for boating and fishing, and is a home to many species of birds, fish, and wildlife. Numerous hiking and mountain biking trails and the large day use area attract visitors to picnic and explore the forests.

    The park is open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset. Day use areas close at dusk.

  • Snow Mobile

    State parks and forests offer thousands of miles and hundreds of acres of designated snowmobile areas for exploration. Opportunities range from scenic trails through the woods, to straightaway runs on roadways, to large, open spaces.

    As long as there is enough snow cover, snowmobile trails open the day after the last day of Pennsylvania’s regular or extended rifle deer season, and close April 1 or earlier as determined by the district forester or park manager.
